Can Pastilla: chartering beside Palma airport
The whole Can Pastilla fleet lies at Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, the yacht club in Can Pastilla on the Bay of Palma. Local residents founded it in 1934. It now has 396 berths, fuel around the clock all year and a travelift, and it is only 2 km from Palma airport, which is handy if you fly in on handover day. Catamarans outnumber the sailing yachts here.
Can Pastilla sits at the start of the Playa de Palma seafront, and an 11 km promenade runs past it between Palma and El Arenal. Out in the bay, the south-east shore from s'Arenal to Cap de Regana is the Bay of Palma Marine Reserve, with artificial reefs off Cap Enderrocat. Scuba diving is banned in its special protection zone. The classic longer trip is south to the Cabrera archipelago national park, 10 nautical miles off Colònia de Sant Jordi. Plan the paperwork before Cabrera. Private boats need a navigation permit, which is free and valid for a year, and staying overnight means booking a buoy through the park's online system. Everywhere in the Balearics, anchoring on posidonia seagrass is banned. In summer the prevailing wind in the bay is a light sea breeze known locally as the embat.
