Saint-Mandrier: catamarans in the bay of Lazaret
All the boats on this page are catamarans of the same make, from compact models up to about 52 feet, and all are based at Port Pin Rolland. The marina lies in the bay of Lazaret on the Saint-Mandrier peninsula, sheltered from the wind, with about 350 berths for boats under 20 m, a sizeable boatyard and fuel delivered by truck. Charters run for at least a week.
Saint-Mandrier was an island, the Île de Sépet, until a causeway was built in the 17th century; the isthmus of Les Sablettes still ties it to the Cap Sicié massif. The peninsula closes off the south side of the Petite Rade of Toulon, across the water from the military port, the largest naval base in Europe and home of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. Expect warships in the roadstead, and give them and any closed military zone a wide berth.
Out of the roadstead, Cap Sicié and the coast towards Marseille lie to the west. To the east you round the Giens peninsula to reach Porquerolles and Port-Cros, both within Port-Cros National Park. Our Hyères islands guide includes a version of the week that starts from Saint-Mandrier.
