What is Ship O’Hoi?
Marina San Miguel, on Tenerife's south coast
San Miguel de Abona is a municipality in the south of Tenerife that reaches the sea at Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf. The yachts listed here lie at Marina San Miguel, beside Amarilla Golf, and are chartered bareboat by the week.
Marina del Sur in Las Galletas is about 3 nautical miles west, and Punta de Rasca, the island's southern tip, is close enough for a first afternoon's sail. Round it and the coast turns north-west past Los Cristianos towards the cliffs of Los Gigantes. This whole stretch is the Teno-Rasca marine protected area, where pilot whales are often seen and boats must keep 500 m from them. La Gomera lies one crossing further west.
Call the marina on VHF 9. Our Tenerife and La Gomera guide has the week leg by leg, with a useful tip: reef before the Rasca headland, not off it.
