Charter a yacht in Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, and sail the Atlantic all year round. The bases are in the south at Las Galletas, San Miguel de Abona and Puerto Colón, and in the east at Radazul and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with La Gomera just across the channel. Compare sailboats, catamarans and motor yachts, bareboat or with a skipper.
Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for a yacht charter in Tenerife?

Where do Tenerife yacht charters start?
Most of the bases are in the sunny south of the island. Las Galletas, with Marina del Sur, lies near Los Cristianos, and San Miguel de Abona (Marina San Miguel) is a little further east. Puerto Colón is in Costa Adeje on the south-west coast. On the east coast, Radazul is just south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island's capital, which has its own marina.
What is sailing in the Canary Islands like?
The Canaries are Atlantic sailing, not the Mediterranean. The north-east trade winds blow steadily for much of the year, and there is ocean swell. Between the islands the wind accelerates around the headlands and through the channels, so the passage to La Gomera, west of Tenerife, can be much windier than the calm water in the island's lee. Plan crossings around the forecast and reef early. The south-west coast between Tenerife and La Gomera is known for pilot whales and dolphins that live there all year: slow down, keep your distance, never chase them or swim with them, and leave them room to move away.
When can you charter a yacht in Tenerife?
All year round: the climate is mild even in winter, which makes Tenerife a popular choice from autumn to spring, when the Mediterranean season is over. Most yachts are chartered by the week, Saturday to Saturday. For bareboat you need a licence recognised in Spain for the boat's size and the area; EU and EEA visitors can usually use their home licence within its limits, and many companies ask for an ICC. With the Atlantic conditions, a skipper is a good idea if you have little open-sea experience. See also yacht charter in Spain, Mallorca and Ibiza.
