Gjeving: the mainland landing for Lyngør
Gjeving is the mainland village opposite Lyngør in Tvedestrand, with road links to Tvedestrand and Risør, a regular boat service across to the islands and several marinas. None of the boats on this page is moored in Gjeving itself. They are small boats from along this coast: open boats and a RIB in Tvedestrand, a bowrider, a RIB and an open boat in Risør, and an open boat at Søndeled.
Lyngør is a short hop across the fjord. Back on land, the Lyngørfjorden coastal culture centre opened in 2019 on the site of the old Lyngør boatyard, with a maritime collection of ship models and figureheads and a visitor centre for Raet National Park.
Keep the speed down near the village. Tvedestrand's rules make the water off Gjeving Nybrygga, out towards Hellersøya and Mannholmen, a 5-knot zone all year, and from 1 May to 31 August the same limit applies anywhere within 50 m of land, islets or visible rocks in the municipality. For routes further afield, see our guide to Lyngør, Risør and Tvedestrand.
