Marina Medulin and the tip of Istria
Medulin is built around a harbour between Cape Kamenjak and Cape Marlera, at the southern tip of Istria. The charter yachts on this page are all based at Marina Medulin, a small marina whose piers have only 1.5 to 2.8 m of water and take boats up to 19.99 m, so check the draft of a larger sailing yacht with the charter company. A few RIBs and a speedboat, offered with a skipper, leave from the Medulin waterfront for day trips.
Sailing yachts dominate the fleet, with some catamarans, mostly on weekly charters.
Right outside the bay is the Medulin archipelago, 11 uninhabited islands and islets with pebble beaches, among them Ceja, Bodulaš and Fenoliga, and to the south the Kamenjak peninsula, where fossil dinosaur footprints can be seen on the shore. The marina also calls itself a gateway to the Kvarner islands, such as Unije, Susak, Lošinj and Cres. On its fourth day, our Istria itinerary from Pula rounds Cape Kamenjak into Medulin bay.
The protected area has its own code for boats. Do not anchor in the Posidonia seagrass meadows, keep at least 50 m from divers' marker buoys, and in a speedboat keep 300 m from the shore. Currents are strong all around Kamenjak, especially between Cape Kršine and the island of Fenoliga.
