Korssund lies in the bay of Korssundosen in Fjaler, north of Åfjorden and south of Vilnesfjorden, and belonged to Askvoll until a border change moved it to Fjaler. The narrow Lammetunsundet gives boats a way through to Vilnesfjorden.
The place is named after a large stone cross, almost 4 m tall and carved from Hyllestad mica slate, which tradition says Olav Haraldsson raised about a thousand years ago. It probably served as a navigation mark for the narrow strait, and it appears on Askvoll's coat of arms. Korssund also has a guest harbour with a floating pier, showers and laundry, a good stop if you arrive by sea.
