What is Ship O’Hoi?
Kungshamn and the sound to Smögen
Kungshamn, the centre of Sotenäs, grew out of the fishing communities of Gravarne, Bäckevik and Fisketången. Its name first appears on an early 17th-century chart for an anchorage between here and Smögen, and since 1970 a bridge has joined the two. A 2008 cruiser with two cabins is based here; its owner asks for a skipper's certificate and experience of boats this size. The others are in Hunnebostrand, on Bohus-Malmön and elsewhere in Sotenäs.
Fisketången has kept the old boathouses that disappeared from Gravarne in the 1970s. The guest harbour has about 100 berths in 2.5 to 5 m of water. More stops are in our Smögen and Sotenäs guide.
From 1 June to 31 August the whole sound between Kungshamn and Smögen is a 5-knot zone, and Smögen harbour and the narrow Pinan channel are limited to 3 knots.
