Täby's coast on Stora Värtan
Täby meets the sea on Stora Värtan, an inlet of the Baltic north of Lidingö. The two harbours on its shore are club harbours: Näsbyviken, a sheltered bay where Näsbyvikens Båtsällskap has 600 berths and guest places that can be booked, and Viggbyholm, where the boat club has a few guest berths but is practically full. The rental boats themselves are privately owned and mostly moored around Stockholm, with some in Täby, Åkersberga, Lidingö and Nacka.
From Stora Värtan the natural direction is north-east, through Hällsund to Kyrkfjärden and on to Vaxholm; our guide to Vaxholm and the northern archipelago picks up from there. The limits drop on the way: - 5 knots in Näsbyviken and inside Viggbyholm marina - 12 knots between Tornön and Röhäll and in Hägernäsviken - 5 knots in Hällsund - 8 knots in Vaxholmssundet, and 5 knots between Vaxön and the Kastellet fortress
If you would rather stay on the bay, Stora Värtan has free hand-line fishing; trolling needs a fishing card.
Sweden requires no licence for boats under 12 m long and 4 m wide, although each owner may set their own experience requirements.
