Masfjordnes, known locally as Sandnes, is the administrative centre of Masfjorden municipality in Nordhordland, just inside the mouth of Masfjorden on its south side. From here the fjord winds 24 km inland between steep mountainsides before splitting into two arms, Haugsværfjorden to the north-east and Matresfjorden to the east.
A cable ferry crosses Sandnesosen, the outer part of the fjord, between Masfjordnes and Duesund on Duesundøy, a crossing of about 800 m, so give it a wide berth.
No boats are listed in Masfjordnes itself. The nearest is near Lindås in Alver, about 11 km to the south-west on the other side of Fensfjorden: a 17 ft open boat for up to six with a 20 hp engine. Its owner includes 20 litres of petrol and suggests it for fishing, leisurely trips and family outings.
