Renting a boat for Ulvøya
Ulvøya is a small island in Bunnefjorden, about 8 km from Oslo centre, reached from Mosseveien by Ulvøybrua, a bridge built in 1928. Boats for this area are privately owned and kept at berths around the inner Oslofjord: most in Oslo, others at Malmøya, Nesodden, Fagerstrand, Høvik and Sandvika. You collect the boat at the owner's berth, not on Ulvøya.
Don't count on tying up at the island's beach. Sydstranda on the south side, run by the residents' association, has sand, a diving tower and a floating platform for swimmers, charges an entrance fee and has no boat mooring. Ulvøya is also the only known site in Norway of the dwarf thistle.
Better stops are close by. Malmøya, just to the west, has a public bathing spot at Skinnerbukta, a sheltered bay that is a popular anchorage, and four nature reserves on and around the island. Beyond it lie Ormøya and, towards the city, Bleikøya, Hovedøya and Gressholmen. For where you are allowed to land, see our list of public piers on the inner fjord.
Near land, meaning anything within 200 m, Oslo allows 5 knots; further out the ceiling is 25. The area around Hovedøya, Bleikøya, Lindøya and Gressholmen is a 5-knot zone throughout, and so is the stretch between Bleikøya and Kongshavn.
