Maridalsvannet: why the boats are on the fjord
Maridalsvannet is not a lake you can take a boat out on. It is Oslo's most important source of drinking water: swimming and fishing are banned, and under Oslo's regulation on motor traffic in outlying areas and waterways, motor vessels may only be used on the lake with a specific permit. What you find listed here are therefore private boats on the Oslofjord, most of them in Oslo, with a few to the west at Høvik, Sandvika and Slependen and at Malmøya.
The lake and the sea are linked by the Akerselva, which runs 9.8 km from Maridalsvannet down to Bjørvika in the city centre. That is more or less the journey you make to reach the boats: from Maridalen down to the harbour.
Once aboard, the inner-fjord islands are close. Hovedøya, Bleikøya, Lindøya and Gressholmen lie just outside the city harbour, and we have collected ten short trips from the city with times and distances for these and longer runs.
Two rules apply on the fjord. Inside Oslo's boundary you may do 25 knots in open water but only 5 knots near any shore (the zone reaches 200 m out), and the waters between those four islands are a 5-knot area throughout.
