Indre Arna and Sørfjorden
The Bergen Line comes out of the Ulriken tunnel at Arna station, and around it Indre Arna has grown into the centre of the Arna borough. At the head of Arnavågen, by the Øyrane Torg shopping centre and the mouth of the Arna river, there is a small-boat harbour, and the bay has bathing spots at Holmen on its west side and Hegglandsviken on the east.
An open boat, offered with its owner as skipper, starts from Indre Arna; the rest are over the hill in central Bergen, north at Hordvik and Frekhaug, on Askøy and in Alver. The mix includes cabin cruisers, sailboats, a bowrider and a pilothouse boat.
Arnavågen opens onto Sørfjorden, one of three fjords around Osterøy, running from Vaksdal in the east to Salhus and Knarvik in the north-west. Heading east you pass under Osterøybrua, which gives 53 m of clearance, towards Trengereid, Bruvik and Vaksdal. North-west, past Ytre Arna and Breistein, Sørfjorden meets Osterfjorden, which leads on to Mostraumen; the Bergen fjord day trips treat that as a long full day out.
One car ferry still crosses Sørfjorden, between Valestrandsfossen on Osterøy and Breistein, so watch for it on the way out.
