Renting a boat near Uppsala: Ekoln, Mälaren's northern bay
Uppsala's way onto Mälaren is Ekoln, the lake's northernmost bay, about 10 km south of the city centre. The Fyrisån, the river through Uppsala, enters its north-eastern arm. Ekoln covers about 22 km² with only a few islands, the largest being Flässjan, and much of its shore is undeveloped, so there are plenty of places to put in. Sailing and zander fishing are both popular here in summer.
Listed here is an aluminium boat kept at Lillåker, in the north of Håbo municipality, which has Ekoln along its northern side. Its owner asks for nautical competence or equivalent experience, and fuel is paid separately.
Two boat clubs run guest harbours on the bay: Ekolns Segelklubb on Skarholmen in the north-east, where there is also a fuel station, and Uppsala Motorbåtsällskap on Norsholmen, on the north side of the Skokloster peninsula. The south-eastern arm leads on through Skofjärden and Erikssund into Sigtunafjärden, past Skokloster and Sigtuna towards Stockholm.
