Rijeka: yachts at the head of Kvarner Bay
Rijeka is Croatia's principal seaport and third-largest city, on Kvarner Bay at the north of the Adriatic. The sailing yachts listed here are based in the city and chartered by the week, bareboat or with crew.
From the city you are straight out in the bay. Krk, the closest of the big islands, is joined to the mainland by the 1,430 m Krk Bridge, opened in 1980, and Rijeka's airport is on Krk rather than in the city. Further out lie Cres and Lošinj, where bottlenose dolphins live.
This is a working port with two large shipyards, so give commercial traffic room near the city quays. Kvarner is also home to the bura, the Adriatic's most violent wind. Check the forecast of Croatia's weather service DHMZ every day; our guide to Krk, Cres, Lošinj and Rab advises staying in port when a bura warning is out.
