From Førde to the Dalsfjorden
Førde, a town since 1997, stands at the head of the Førdefjorden, where the river Jølstra runs out with the town on both banks. The fjord is about 40 km long, and at Naustdal along its shore, Engebøfjellet holds Norway's largest deposit of rutile.
Boats for Førde are listed at Bygstad, about 20 km away at the inner end of the neighbouring Dalsfjorden, where Førde's airport at Bringeland also lies, some 16 km from the town centre. Among them is an open console boat seating six, with a 115 hp outboard, which its owner pitches for a day of exploring the coast, fishing or sitting in the sun; you can book the owner as skipper too.
Bygstad is known for the river Gaula, the fjord and Kvamshesten, the mountain at the centre of the village.
