Renting a boat in Vikersund: a skippered cabin cruiser on Tyrifjorden

Vikersund, the administrative centre of Modum, lies at the far south-western corner of Tyrifjorden. Here the lake drains through Vikerfossen into Bergsjøen, and the Drammenselva begins. Timber was once floated from the lake past the falls and down the river.

On offer here is a cabin cruiser with 195 cm of headroom, a large sun mattress on deck and a diesel heater for a longer season. It lies ready at a lakeside hotel at Hval, just outside the centre, and is rented only with a skipper.

Tyrifjorden is Norway's fifth-largest lake by area and holds more fresh water than any other lake except Mjøsa. Its depths vary a great deal: the arm towards Vikersund is only 3 to 10 m deep, while a deep channel with steep sides runs between Tyristrand and Sylling.
