Renting a boat at Røyse on Tyrifjorden's Nordfjorden
Røyse is the farming peninsula of Hole, running out into Tyrifjorden along the eastern shore of Nordfjorden, with Røysetoppen, 204 m, as its highest point. Its fields grow grain and vegetables, including the protected Ringerike pea. A bowrider is kept on the Røyse shore, and its owner recommends it for swimming stops and watersports.
From the boat you can follow the shore south past Bønsnes church, one of the peninsula's two medieval churches, to Bønsnestangen, where Nordfjorden opens into the main lake. Frognøya, a small island with a farm, lies just off Bønsnes, and across the arm is the Ringerike shore at Nakkerud. The inner end of Nordfjorden, towards Røsholmstranda and the mouths of Sogna and Storelva, is very shallow.
If you plan to fish, note the official food-safety advice: because of PFAS pollution, no fish from Tyrifjorden should be eaten.
