Renting a boat in Mahón: a catamaran week from Menorca's long harbour
Mahón, Maó in Catalan, is the capital of Menorca and lies on the island's east coast. Its natural harbour is about 5 km long and up to 900 m wide; the water is deep and, thanks to the enclosed shape, mostly clear. The sailing catamaran listed here is based in the port of Mahón and is chartered by the week with a skipper.
On Illa del Rei, an island in the harbour, stand the ruins of a Royal Naval Hospital founded in 1711, early in the British period. At the harbour mouth lies Es Castell, a town built as a military settlement in 1771 and the easternmost town in Spain.
Our North Mallorca and Menorca guide explains which parts of the island fit a week from Maó rather than one from Mallorca.
