Renting a boat in Venice: from Fusina across the lagoon
For Venice, the pickup point is not the historic centre but Fusina, on the mainland in the Marghera district, where the Naviglio del Brenta, the old mouth of the Brenta, meets the lagoon. Here you find a small open motorboat for up to seven with a sunshade, echo sounder and GPS. Its owner says you can drive it without a boat licence if you are at least 18, in line with the Italian rule for engines up to 30 kW (40.8 hp) within 6 nm of the coast.
The owner suggests Murano and Burano, and the beaches of Lido di Jesolo. On the lagoon, speed limits are in km/h: 7 km/h on the Grand Canal, 5 km/h on the other city canals and inside Burano, and 8 km/h on Murano's outer channels.
