Renting a boat in San Benedetto del Tronto: a fishing port on the Adriatic
San Benedetto del Tronto is the main town of the Riviera delle Palme, a low, straight stretch of more than 18 km of sandy Adriatic coast in southern Marche that also takes in Grottammare and Cupra Marittima. A cruising sailing yacht is based at the Porto di San Benedetto del Tronto, available by the week.
The port is one of the largest on the Adriatic, and its wholesale fish market stands inside the basin near the quay where fishing boats land their catch. There are pontoons for leisure boats and fuel, and the basin is dredged regularly because sand builds up.
At the mouth of the Tronto, at the southern edge of the town, the Sentina nature reserve protects a brackish marsh and one of the few stretches of Adriatic sandy beach with nothing built behind it. It is a stopover for migrating birds.
