Renting a boat in San Fernando: fishing trips at Sancti Petri
San Fernando, known locally as La Isla, stands on the Isla de León. The shallow Caño de Sancti Petri separates it from Chiclana de la Frontera and Puerto Real, a sea channel crossed by the Zuazo bridge. A pilothouse boat is listed here for guided fishing trips, with tackle provided and trips for every level of angler; its map pin is at Sancti Petri on the Chiclana shore.
The channel and its salt marshes belong to the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park, 10,522 hectares declared in 1989 and a special protection area for birds, where the Junta de Andalucía describes the Sancti Petri channel as a route to explore by canoe or sailing boat. Just offshore lies the Islote de Sancti Petri, which belongs to San Fernando. The ruins of an 18th-century castle stand on it, with a rebuilt tower in use as a lighthouse, and Phoenician and Roman remains, including a temple of Hercules, have been found there.
