Renting a boat in Asker
Since 2020 Asker municipality has covered the old municipalities of Asker, Røyken and Hurum, so its coast runs from the islands around Nesøya in the north down the Hurum peninsula to the south. Pick-up points on the Asker side include Slemmestad, where a sailing boat is rented out, and Slependen on the Bærum border. More lie in Oslo and at Fagerstrand on Nesodden, across the water.
Slemmestad is easy to find from the water: the four 70 m cement silos on its quay are a landmark across the inner Oslofjord, and the Norwegian Coastal Administration has a radar on top of them to watch fjord traffic. Further south, the Hurum coast has sheltered bays; Sandspollen, with its gently shelving sandy bottom, is among our favourite places to swim from a boat.
Asker's speed rules vary by area: - 5 knots within 200 m of land, islets, skerries and quays, and in all of Leangbukta, Hyggenvika and a zone between Gråøya and the mainland - 25 knots in the open water between Bjerkøya and Løkenes, and in the north outside the 5-knot zones - 8 knots in the Svelvik current
