Renting a boat in Rendalen on Storsjøen
Rendalen is a side valley of Østerdalen. A small open boat with a 9.9 hp four-stroke outboard and a simple echo sounder is listed here, kept near Åkrestrømmen, the village at the northern end of Storsjøen where the rivers Mistra and Rena meet.
Storsjøen is 35 km long but no more than 1.7 km wide. It lies 251 m above sea level and is 309 m deep at its deepest, and it holds whitefish, trout, grayling, burbot and Arctic char. In autumn, when the whitefish run up the river at Åkrestrømmen to spawn, locals keep up the tradition of catching them with hand nets.
The lake is regulated as a hydropower reservoir, so the water level and the shoreline change over the season. Check with the owner which local fishing licence applies before casting a line.
