Sannidal and Kilsfjorden
Sannidal was a municipality until 1960, when it merged with Skåtøy and Kragerø. Its old centre, Kil, lies at the head of Kilsfjorden, about 12 km by road north-west of Kragerø town. The fjord reaches further inland than any other in the area and was Sannidal's route to the sea, shipping timber in the 1600s and 1700s and ice in the 1800s and early 1900s. A RIB is listed in Sannidal; the others are down the fjord in Kragerø, including a small boat at Gunnarsholmen in the town centre, and at Stabbestad, Søndeled and Risør.
The inner fjord is sheltered water, a calm option on days when the outer skerries are rough. Near Kil, inside a marked line, the limit is 5 knots from 20 June to 20 August. Our Kragerø archipelago guide describes the trip from Kragerø to Kil alongside four routes further out.
