Yacht charter in the Gulf of La Spezia
Most yachts listed for La Spezia are based at Porto Mirabello, a marina built on an artificial peninsula of about 40,000 m² joined to the city centre. It has 407 berths, two fuel stations and works on VHF channel 73. Others start from Bocca di Magra, at the mouth of the Magra river in Ameglia, about 11 km south-east of the city, and some from Marina del Fezzano at Fezzano di Portovenere, a floating marina with 250 berths on VHF channel 9. Porto Lotti is also used.
Almost the entire fleet consists of sailing yachts and catamarans rented for whole weeks.
The gulf itself, known as the Gulf of Poets, is small, about 4.5 km long and 3 to 3.5 km wide. Lerici, 8 km south-east of La Spezia, sits on its eastern shore. On the western side, the Porto Venere Regional Nature Park covers about 400 ha: the Porto Venere promontory, the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, and a marine protection area at the gulf's western edge. Check the park's rules before you anchor in these waters.
Past Porto Venere the coast turns north-west towards the Cinque Terre. Our Cinque Terre and Portofino sailing week plans the route from La Spezia, with nights in harbour and daytime stops off the villages.
