Kvitsøy: guest harbours in the outer Boknafjord
A small open boat with a 9.9 hp outboard and electric start is kept on Kvitsøy itself. The other boats on this page are day cruisers on the mainland, in Stavanger and Tananger; the owner in Stavanger can also come along as skipper.
The municipality runs two guest harbours: Gamlekaien in Ydstebøhavn, the largest, with toilets, showers and shore power, and a berth beside the lobster museum on Grøningen. Berths are paid in the GoMarina app, and diesel and petrol are sold at Vollsøy quay by the ferry terminal. Kvitsøy lighthouse, built in 1829 and raised to 27 m in 1859, marks the approach to the Boknafjord and Stavanger.
Kvitsøy is also home to the Kvitsøy vessel traffic centre, which controls shipping between Jærens rev and the Bømlafjord, so expect large ships around the islands. The island is route 5 in our Stavanger boat routes.
