Sailing from Halmstad into Laholmsbukten
Halmstad is a port town on both banks of the Nissan, where the river runs into Laholmsbukten. This bay of the Kattegat stretches from Tylösand in the north to Hovs hallar on the Bjäre peninsula in the south, with about 50 km of shoreline.
A classic 27 ft sailing boat for up to four is based in Halmstad, with a small outboard for manoeuvring in harbour. Its owner lets it to experienced sailors, for a day or a weekend.
Tylösand, about 7 km west, has a 4 km sandy beach and Tjuvahålan, a cove once used by smugglers. Offshore lies Tylön, with a lighthouse from 1870. The island is a bird sanctuary: from 1 April to 15 July most of it, and the water up to 150 m from its shore, is closed. Only the jetty, the beach north of it and the water on the Tylösand side stay open.
