Athens is Greece's biggest charter hub. Most yachts sail from Alimos Marina on the south coast, about 40 minutes by car from the airport, and more boats are based in Piraeus next door. Compare sailboats, catamarans and motor yachts from both bases on one page, bareboat or with a skipper, and sail to Aegina, Poros and Hydra in the Saronic Gulf, or on to the Cyclades.

Where do Athens charters start? Alimos and Piraeus
Alimos Marina is the largest marina in Greece and the base most Athens charter fleets sail from. It lies on the Athens Riviera between Palaio Faliro and Glyfada, about 40 minutes by car from Athens International Airport and 20 minutes from the city centre.
Piraeus, the city's historic port, is the second base, close to the metro and the ferry terminals. Boats from both bases are listed together on this page, so you see every available yacht in the Athens area at once.
Where can you sail from Athens?
The Saronic Gulf is on the doorstep. Aegina is a half-day sail from Alimos, and a one-week loop typically takes in Poros, Hydra and the Peloponnese coast around Epidavros. Sheltered waters and short hops make the Saronic the usual choice for a first charter in Greece.
With more experience, head south-east to the Cyclades: Kea, Kythnos and Syros are the first stops. In July and August the meltemi, a strong northerly wind, blows across the Cyclades, so plan that route with care or take a skipper.
Bareboat, skippered or crewed?
Many Athens yachts can be chartered bareboat. In Greece that requires a recognised sailing licence, such as the ICC, for the skipper and one more crew member with sailing experience. If nobody in your group holds one, add a professional skipper, or choose a crewed yacht with a skipper and host on board. Each listing shows which options it offers.
When to charter and how booking works
The season runs from April to October. May, June and September bring warm water and quieter anchorages; July and August are the busiest and most expensive weeks. Most charter yachts are booked by the week, Saturday to Saturday, and each listing shows the price and availability for your dates before you book.
A third base west of Athens: Nea Peramos
West of the city, on the way to Corinth, the harbour at Nea Peramos is home to a large fleet of catamarans and sailboats. It is about 40 minutes by car from central Athens and handy for the Saronic Islands and the Corinth Canal. Its boats are not listed on this page; find them among all catamarans in Greece. For the Cyclades, the closest base is Lavrion.
