Greece has one of the largest catamaran fleets in the world, with the biggest bases at Athens and Lefkada, followed by Lavrion, Preveza, Corfu, Volos, Rhodes and Kos. A catamaran gives every cabin its own space, sails flat and anchors in shallow bays, which makes it the favourite for families and groups. Compare every catamaran in Greece below, bareboat, with a skipper or with a full crew.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a catamaran charter in Greece cost?
Can I charter a catamaran with crew in Greece?
Where are most catamarans in Greece based?
Why charter a catamaran in Greece?
A catamaran offers more space than a monohull of the same length: a large saloon and cockpit on one level, a trampoline at the bow and usually four cabins, often each with its own bathroom. It heels very little under sail, which suits guests who are new to sailing, and its shallow draft lets you anchor close to the beaches of the Ionian and the Saronic islands.
Catamaran charter with crew
Many Greek catamarans can be booked with a skipper, and crewed catamarans come with a skipper and a host or cook on board, so you can charter without any sailing experience. To charter a catamaran bareboat in Greece, the skipper needs a recognised licence, such as the ICC, and a second crew member needs sailing experience. Each listing shows what it offers.
Where to sail a catamaran in Greece
The Ionian Islands around Lefkada and Corfu have the calmest water and the shortest hops, ideal for a first week on a catamaran. From Athens, the Saronic Gulf takes you to Aegina, Poros and Hydra. Experienced crews can head for the Cyclades, where the meltemi blows in July and August – a catamaran's size catches the wind, so plan that route with a skipper if you are unsure.
