Volos is the charter base for the Sporades. From the port you sail out through the sheltered Pagasetic Gulf, past the villages of Mount Pelion, to Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos: green, pine-covered islands with clear water and short hops between them. Compare every boat in Volos below, bareboat or with a skipper.

Frequently asked questions

Which islands can I reach from Volos?

Is Volos good for a first charter in Greece?

How do I get to Volos?

Can I charter a catamaran in Volos?

Why start a Sporades charter in Volos?

The Pagasetic Gulf is almost enclosed, so the first and last days of the week are sailed in calm, protected water. It is a gentle start for a first charter in Greece and a good choice for families.

Once through the Trikeri channel, the Sporades open up: Skiathos first, then Skopelos and Alonissos. Distances between the islands are short, so there is time for swimming stops every day.

A week in the Sporades

A typical week runs Volos – Pelion coast – Skiathos – Skopelos – Alonissos and back. Alonissos is home to the National Marine Park of Alonissos and the Northern Sporades, one of the last refuges of the Mediterranean monk seal. Anchoring and fishing rules apply in the park, so check them before you go.

Wind and season

The Sporades lie further from the meltemi's strongest belt than the Cyclades, and the gulf is sheltered. The season runs from April to October; June and September are the pleasant, quieter months.

Getting there and booking

Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos with summer flights. Most visitors fly into Athens or Thessaloniki and continue by car or bus. Most boats are chartered by the week, Saturday to Saturday. For a bareboat charter, the skipper needs a recognised licence such as the ICC. See all yacht charters in Greece.
