Where Chalkidiki charters start
Chalkidiki is a large region, and the yachts listed here start from four different places. Most are at Nikiti, the seat of the Sithonia municipality. Others are at Porto Carras marina on Sithonia, with berths for up to 315 vessels and a Blue Flag; at Marina Miraggio in Kanistro on Kassandra, with 81 berths for boats up to 40 m, open all year; and at Ormos Panagias, the port of Agios Nikolaos, between Kassandra and Athos. Sailing yachts dominate, with some catamarans and a few motor yachts.
Sithonia's coast gives a week plenty of short legs: - Kelyfos, an uninhabited island shaped like a tortoise, opposite Neos Marmaras. - Porto Koufo, a natural harbour already mentioned by Thucydides, with Toroni's 2.5 km curved beach close by. - Diaporos, off the east coast, about 4 km² with no permanent residents and sheltered turquoise coves.
East of Sithonia rises Mount Athos. Women may not land there, and any visitor going ashore needs a diamonitirion permit, so for most crews the monasteries are something to see from the water. Miraggio also describes itself as the Chalkidiki marina closest to the Sporades, which suits crews planning a longer crossing.
