Renting a boat near Leknes: Buksnesfjorden in the middle of Lofoten

Leknes lies deep inside Buksnesfjorden, in the middle of Lofoten, about 68 km from Svolvær and 65 km from Å. Unusually for Lofoten, the town grew up as a centre for farming villages rather than fishing, and its centre is not on the water. The harbour still sees some 70 cruise-ship calls a year. Along the fjord's west side, Gravdal and the fishing village of Ballstad follow within about 11 km.

No boats are listed in Leknes itself. The nearest is a light 14 ft open boat for up to four, with a 20 hp four-stroke engine, near Valberg on the east side of Vestvågøy, about 13 km from Leknes. It stands on a registered trailer.

By sea, the preserved fishing village of Nusfjord is about 10 nautical miles from Leknes, one of the trips in our Lofoten routes. The midnight sun is above the horizon here from late May to mid-July.
