On the water without a licence
In Italy you may only drive small boats of up to 40 hp without a licence, and only close to the coast. A sailing yacht or catamaran needs a skipper with a recognised licence. With a skipper on board that is taken care of: they are responsible for the boat, and you enjoy the week.
Where the skippered yachts are
Almost all boats with a skipper or crew sail from the north-east of the island: Portisco and Cala dei Sardi in the Gulf of Cugnana, Olbia and Cannigione. From there it is a short hop to Tavolara, along the Costa Smeralda and into the La Maddalena archipelago. The fleet is mostly large catamarans, plus sailing yachts, motor yachts and gulets.
Skipper or full crew?
