Charter a yacht in southern Corsica and sail the Strait of Bonifacio, the Lavezzi Islands and the Gulf of Ajaccio. The bases are in Ajaccio, Propriano, Bonifacio, Pianottoli-Caldarello and Porto-Vecchio, and Sardinia is only a short crossing away. Compare sailboats, catamarans and motor yachts, bareboat or with a skipper.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I charter a yacht in Corsica?
Can I sail from Corsica to Sardinia?
Do I need a licence to charter a yacht in Corsica?
Where do Corsica yacht charters start?
All the Corsican charter bases on this page are in the south and west of the island. Ajaccio has two marinas, Port Tino Rossi and Port Charles Ornano, on the Gulf of Ajaccio on the west coast. Propriano lies further south in the Gulf of Valinco. Bonifacio, on the southern tip, and Pianottoli-Caldarello, just west of it, are the closest bases to the Strait of Bonifacio. Porto-Vecchio is the base for the south-east coast.
Bonifacio, Lavezzi and Sardinia
The classic week in the south heads for the Lavezzi Islands, a marine reserve of granite islets and clear water where anchoring and mooring are restricted in places. Across the Strait of Bonifacio lie La Maddalena and the north of Sardinia, only a few hours away; the Maddalena archipelago is a national park with its own rules. See yacht charter in Sardinia. From Ajaccio you can explore the gulf and the Sanguinaires islands at its mouth, or sail north along the west coast to the Scandola nature reserve, where anchoring and landing are strictly limited. The Strait of Bonifacio can be windy and rough, so keep an eye on the forecast.
Bareboat or with a skipper?
No licence is needed to skipper a sailing yacht in French waters, but for a bareboat charter the charter company usually asks for an ICC or proof of sailing experience. Motor yachts over 6 hp need a licence. If you sail on to Sardinia, Italian rules apply there, so check with the base first. Without experience, add a skipper; some yachts come fully crewed. For the mainland, see the French Riviera and all of France.
