Best Overnight Spots in the Oslofjord by Boat

# Best Overnight Spots in the Oslofjord by Boat

Waking up to the gentle lap of waves, seabirds, and morning sun over the fjord is one of boating's greatest pleasures. The Oslofjord offers a wide range of overnight options – from remote anchorages where you're completely alone to bustling guest harbors with restaurants and facilities.

Anchorages for Quiet Nights

Sandspollen (Hurum)

The large, gradually deepening sandy bay is perfect for overnight stays. Well sheltered from most wind directions with good holding in sand. Swim from your boat at sunset and wake up to a glassy calm surface.

Håøya, West Side

Large, calm bays with mud bottom providing excellent anchor holding. The island is uninhabited, so nighttime is peaceful. Bring mosquito spray in July.

Bergholmen

A scenic island with good anchoring. Space is limited, so arrive early on popular weekends. A wonderful feeling of remoteness despite Oslo being just a short cruise away.

Bleikøya, East Side

For those who want to overnight near the city without paying for a guest harbor. Sheltered bay with clay bottom. A short run back to Aker Brygge in the morning.

Guest Harbors with Overnight Comfort

Drøbak

Perfect for an evening in town combined with boat accommodation. Restaurants and cafés are within walking distance, and the harbor has electricity and showers. See our guest harbor guide for more details.

Son

Son guest harbor offers coastal charm with white wooden houses and great dining. The harbor is well equipped with all facilities, and there's a bakery for fresh rolls just minutes away in the morning.

Tønsberg

For a more urban experience, Tønsberg is hard to beat. The guest harbor runs along the canal through the town center, and summer evenings are lively.

Stavern

Stavern offers a more relaxed atmosphere. The Citadel and old military camp add historical character, and the guest harbor is well maintained.

What to Bring for Overnight Stays

  • Warm sleeping bags or duvets – even when daytime temperatures are high, nights can be cool on the fjord
  • Anchor light – mandatory for boats at anchor between sunset and sunrise
  • Mosquito repellent – especially in bays close to shore
  • Extra chain/line – to ensure secure anchoring
  • Breakfast provisions – nothing beats fresh coffee and eggs prepared in the cockpit

Plan Your Trip

A cabin cruiser or sailboat is ideal for overnight trips, both providing shelter and sleeping berths.
